FreeBSD 8.1 released
A new release of of the FreeBSD operating system is available: 8.1-RELEASE
Hot features include:
- ZFS version 14
- zfsloader (boot from ZFS disks, mirror and raidz)
- NFSv4 ACL (Access Control Lists) support in UFS a ZFS
My work on this release:
- update of ZFS to version 14 and a lot of bugfixes
- improved ZFS L2ARC, prefetch and extended statistics
- integration of the xz compressor into the base system
- support of Kerberos authentication via PAM without the need of a local user entry
